At Sumsion Business Law, we believe in investing in the next generation of leaders who live with integrity, service, and a commitment to bettering their communities. To honor the legacy of Alex Lawrence Johnson, we proudly offer the annual Live Like Alex Scholarship.
This scholarship supports students who, like Alex, lead with compassion, serve others, and stand firm in their values.
Alex lived each day with purpose, faith, and kindness, leaving a positive impact on all who knew him. He embodied leadership, humility, and service to his family and community.
This scholarship continues Alex’s legacy by supporting students who carry these values forward in their studies and future careers.
Current, full-time students enrolled at accredited two- or four-year colleges or universities within the United States. All majors are welcome, with special encouragement for applicants who demonstrate:
Students may choose one of the following submission formats:
Write a 600–800 word article addressing:
“Identify a business law or ethical challenge facing your community or industry today. How can the principles Alex lived by, leadership, integrity, service, and compassion, be applied to address this challenge and help others? How do you plan to embody these principles in your future career?
”Or“
An experience where you stood up for what was right in your school, work, or community, and how that experience shaped your perspective on integrity and service in leadership.
”If selected, your article may be featured on the Sumsion Business Law website to help educate others.
Create a 2-3 minute video for TikTok, Instagram Reels, or YouTube that:
- Explains a business law topic (e.g., starting a business, contracts, trademarks, ethical leadership) in a way your peers can understand.
- Shares how you personally apply Alex’s values of service and integrity in your education or community involvement.
Include #LeadLikeAlexJohnson and tag @sumsionbusinesslaw in your post. Submit the video file or link when you email your application.

Each year, one student will be selected to receive a $2,000 scholarship to support their educational goals while carrying forward Alex’s legacy of purposeful, service-driven living.
The submission deadline is June 30th. This scholarship is offered each year on a recurring basis.
